New Ethel Tory Centre: O-Week activities

Ethel Tory Centre: O-Week Program
Students studying language, culture or linguistics courses as part of their program are invited to attend orientation events in the new Ethel Tory Centre.
The Ethel Tory Centre is a new teaching and learning space designed to promote student collaboration while enabling flexible teaching and learning modes.
The Centre will consist of:
- A state-of-the-art video-conferencing facility
- 3 teaching and learning studios equipped with MAC laptops, wireless connections, movable table configurations and multiple display monitors.
- A Collaborative Learning Studio with technology-enhanced booths, individual workspaces and group-work tables.
- An internal and external break out area with ‘chill-out’ furniture and a small kitchenette and wireless internet enabled.
Events will be held daily during Orientation Week and will enable students to experience first-hand the new technology within these state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities.
These events are free and don’t require bookings. Students can also attend before or after (or on another day to) their language placement tests.
MAC Training
All computers in the new Ethel Tory Centre are MAC laptop computers. As part of Orientation week events, students have the opportunity to attend sessions where trained MAC operators will give tips and hints on how to use and make the most of MAC OS 10 and the MAC iLife Suite. These sessions will also introduce students to all the software and hardware that they will encounter in their classes with this facility. These sessions will be 2hours in duration.
Wattle Orientation
Students have the opportunity to attend sessions which will introduce them to the Australian National University’s learning management system, WATTLE. This system provides an online environment where course content and activities are made available for students to access anywhere and anytime through the internet. Come along to this session to see the types of learning supports which may be provided through Wattle. These sessions will be 1 hour in duration.
In addition to this information, students will also have the opportunity to explore the new collaborative learning environment and familiarise themselves with social facilities available in the external and internal break-out areas.
Registration and what to bring
Students do not need to register for these sessions. Some sessions may be at capacity in which case students who are the last to arrive, will have to come back and attend a later session.
It is advised that students bring their student number and password so they can operate while logged in to their own profile.
